Providing Expertise and Advice

Keeping people safe is everyone's responsibility and should be at the heart of every organisation. At Durham Community Action we provide information, guidance and training on safeguarding to voluntary and community groups.

Trustees within the voluntary sector have a responsibility to ensure their organisation has a safeguarding policy that is regularly updated. Trustees should ensure the organisation has a safer recruitment process and everyone within the organisation can recognise, respond and report safeguarding concerns.

You can view Durham Community Action's Safeguarding Policy here

We regularly run Community Development Workshops focusing on Safeguarding.

Our Introduction to Safeguarding workshop is aimed at new trustees, staff or volunteers within the voluntary sector. This session will help you to gain a basic understanding of safeguarding, understand personal responsibilities for safeguarding, identify different types of abuse and harm, recognise signs of possible safeguarding issues and know what to do if you have a safeguarding concern.

Our Safeguarding Responsibilities within the Voluntary Sector workshop is aimed at volunteer-led organisations and community groups. This session will cover the importance of having a safeguarding policy, understanding your responsibilities for safeguarding within your organisation, what to include in your safeguarding policy and improving your safeguarding culture.

Further information can be found on our Current Training and Events page

We regularly give updates on Safeguarding at the Better Together VCS Forum - find out more here
